Cedar Riverside NRP is looking for an AmeriCorps VISTA to serve as our Community Engagement Specialist for a 1 year term!
CRNRP’s mission is to support residents and stakeholders of the West Bank neighborhood by providing culturally appropriate tools and resources that promote civic engagement, leadership development, and equitable access to economic and educational opportunities for all its constituents. Our neighborhood is home to major institutions like the University of Minnesota, Augsburg College, and Fairview Health Systems, as well as a diverse small business and nonprofit community. With a poverty rate above 50% and an immigrant population of 45% (largely East African) our residents face unique challenges and opportunities. The central goal for CRNRP’s VISTA project is to encourage underrepresented constituents to actively participate in our planning and implementation efforts to improve economic, educational, and safety outcomes for all our community members. The VISTA member will contribute to this goal by sustaining and increasing our capacity for productive, effective communications, outreach and community engagement.
CRNRP is a host site for an AmeriCorps VISTA as part of the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits (MCN) VISTA program. The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits AmeriCorps VISTA program builds the capacity of nonprofits serving or led by immigrant and refugee communities and communities of color to overcome poverty.
The AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program is a member of the AmeriCorps family of national service programs and administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). VISTA members are full time volunteers who are charged with helping bring individuals and communities out of poverty by performing ‘indirect service’ that increases the capacity of their host organizations. Members are prohibited from engaging in direct service, focusing instead on creating systemic change. VISTA members are provided with a modest living allowance and health care allowance through CNCS to support their full-time, full-year commitment to combating poverty.
